The CDC is once again recommending we all wear face masks whenever we leave the house, even if you’re vaccinated.   Schools are trying to stay open but right now young children are the most vulnerable. Please protect yourself and, most importantly, those at risk by wearing a mask in public. Washable cotton face masks are reusable, therefore reducing waste.

The CDC recommends cotton masks have 2  layers of fabric.  We make the pleated masks with 3 layers.  The fabric ties eliminate sore ears from wearing masks with elastic for 8 hours a day.  We make the contour masks with 4 layers, 2 cotton and 2 interfacing.  These also feature a nose wire, in order to prevent glasses from fogging, and adjustable ear loops to ensure a perfect fit.  In addition, both styles include a pocket on the inside which gives the option of adding a filter for another layer. Use either a surgical mask, a HEPA vacuum cleaner bag (just make sure it isn’t made from fiberglass) or even a coffee filter.

Useful tips for washable cotton face masks:

Wash cotton face masks before the first use and each time they are worn.  Be sure to remove by the ties or ear loops, not by pulling from the front. Refrain from touching the mask while you’re wearing it in order to not spread any virus that may have come in contact with your mask. And most important,  keep your nose, mouth and chin covered. Masks do you absolutely no good worn under your nose. Wear the pleated masks with the pleats facing down.  Tie the top tie close to the crown of the head and the bottom tie around the back of the neck.  Pull the ties tight in order to eliminate any gaps around the nose and ears.
